Design Methodology
During the past 7 years Goudsmit have developed a thorough and comprehensive design methodology. This complements the project management tools and skills and when both are used in tandem it is hoped that the result is best practice in engineering design.
Typically the methodology is as follows:
1. Appraisal of the project goals with ratings given for technological difficulty, overall achievability and current state of the industry technology
2. Decision made if the project can be realised, if any pure R&D work will be needed and the time-scales that will be required
3. Technology is benchmarked against existing to create a realistic expectation about what will be achievable ( for example power to volume ratio of a motor)
4. Initial design concepts drawn up and discussed with client
5. Generally two best design concepts will be engineered and modelled to identify broad performance envelope of the product under design
6. Cost assessment of the design
7. Production assessment of the designs
8. Patent and technology assessment of the designs
9. Final product drawings done and final FEA/BEM analysis carried out on the design
10.Prototype manufacture
11.Test of prototype and benchmark against modelling results and other similar products
12. Fine tuning of the models to conform to the prototype performance allowing any design changes to be accurately modelled and no further prototypes to be built
13. Design file signed off by client
14. Product goes for manufacture
