Mechanical Analysis

Stress analysis has become almost an everyday business for Goudsmit UK as it has expanded its industrial components business enormously over the last few years. Specifically in the areas of die-casting, turned parts and more recently with investment casting the company has seen design pushed to the limits of what materials can withstand in terms of mechanical load. StressFEA

Our mechanical analysis can include the following:

  • Static systems
  • Oscillating systems
  • Buckling
  • Drop tests
  • Fatigue

These types of analysis can be carried out on linear and non-linear materials and the company has the ability to test any material from its stress-strain curve and input this data into a model and to run an analysis.

A very good example of such a process is the die-casting below. This casting had failed when manufactured from #5 zinc alloy and by inputting the stress-strain curve and adding the loads we could simulate the failure. Changing the computer models material to a different alloy which was ZA-8 allowed us to show that the part would now no longer fail as the part was operating in the linear portion of the stress-strain curve.

Mechanical analysis can be coupled to other types of analysis to simulate more complex systems although there are varying degrees of integration which can be achieved depending on the software that the company uses.
