Motion Analysis

With the growth in the complexity of the sub-assemblies, sub-contract manufacture and design projects that the company is now involved with, it is frequently necessary to simulate the mechanical motion on the product and the loads that this introduces into the various component parts that make up the product.

Goudsmit UK have been undertaking such analysis for some time now and the results allow for the checking of designs for interference and optimising the structure and material choices for products. The output from the software can be fed into our mechanical analysis package and thus we can determine if the load placed on a component by the motion of the application will be so great as to cause that component to fail and break.

An example of such an application is shown below. This is a system used for holding shuttering in the manufacture of concrete forms and it clamps onto a steel bed by use of the permanent magnets in the base. A revolutionary cam device has been employed to allow a rotary movement of the handle to remove the clamp from the steel bed. By analysing the motion we were able to not only examine the motion of the cam but were able to look at a stress analysis of the handle as well.

This demonstrates a simple but effective use of this software to offer a step change in product performance while minimising tooling costs and sample manufacture.
