    Meet ‘Aqua’ The Superyacht

    Superyacht

The 112-metre superyacht is completely powered by hydrogen for all its onboard energy needs, specifically designed for “a discerning, forward-looking owner”. The superyacht uses one of the cleanest fuels, liquid hydrogen, which is stored in two 28-ton tanks at extremely low temperatures of approximately -253°C.

    How does it work?

The hydrogen is converted into electrical energy by proton exchange membrane fuel cells. In tun, the energy generated powers the superyacht and its onboard energy requirements. Water is the only by product of the system, which also sees large batteries buffer the generated electricity.

    The design

Designed by Dutch company Sinot Yacht Architecture & Design, the yacht was first presented at the 2019 Monaco Yacht Show. Lead designer Sander Sinot, when speaking about the brilliant concept noted “For development of Aqua we took inspiration from the lifestyle of a discerning, forward-looking owner, the fluid versatility of water and cutting-edge technology to combine this in a 112-metre superyacht with truly innovative features.”

“Our challenge was to implement fully operational liquid hydrogen and fuel cells in a true superyacht that is not only ground-breaking in technology, but also in design and aesthetics.”

Aqua will have a speed of 17 knots, approximately 31 km/h. The astonishing 56 tonnes hydrogen will therefore enable the superyacht to cruise from London to New York in one go. With the intended launch of the superyacht being 2024, it will undoubtedly be at the forefront of its superyacht peers.

    Inside the superyacht

Accommodating 14 guests and 31 crew members over a five-deck plan, the interior has been designed around providing both privacy and space.

Additionally, some key features of the superyacht include:

    • An open plan layout divided by wooden screens
    • Floor to ceiling windows on the port and starboard sides
    • A large central skylight and crafted wooden structure
    • A large bathroom
    • Dressing room
    • Indoor health and wellness centre with a hydro massage room, yoga space and workout floor
    • Infinity pool
    • Lounge
    • Staterooms
    • Heliport

In addition, the exterior has been inspired by “ocean swells”, featuring a curved top deck, integrated bow observatory, glass band windows and a raised front profile.
